Unfortunately it took me many years to come to grips with my size, and find stores that carry clothes that fit big girls...clothes that aren't grandma moo-moos or tents.
I have had a lot of big girls ask me where I shop, and I am happy to share my secrets to fashion success at any size.
I largely shop at Macy's, Nordstrom, Torrid, Avenue, and Bloomingdales. I usually do a majority of my shopping at the major department stores online because their plus size selections are so much bigger than what they carry in stores. Avenue has locations around the country, but if there are none near you, they also have a great online selection. Many of these online stores have free shipping for orders over $50-$100, and if you aren't happy with the clothes when they arrive, you can return them to ANY store for free!
Some of my favorite fashionable plus size designers are Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, and Anne Klein. Macy's, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale's all carry plus size clothes from these designers, and although their pieces can be a bit pricey, it is good quality, has a flattering fit, and are classic pieces which will stay fashionable for years to come.
Another shopping tip: I typically dress fairly "blandly" meaning I steer clear of many patterns and designs. My wardrobe is largely comprised of good quality jeans, slacks, dresses and blazers. I dress up my simple classic pieces with "flair": shoes, purses, jewelry and makeup. To me there's nothing more sexy and chic than a pair of good fitting jeans, a plain black tank and blazer combo that can be dressed up with a pair of flirty Betsy Johnson or Jessica Simpson pumps, a Tory Burch clutch (or your favorite vintage bag), and a pair of sparkling hoop earrings.
It's the simple things that can make a big girl living in a skinny world feel beautiful. And there's nothing better than loving yourself, and looking the best that you can.
xoxo- Tiffany
